The Importance of Poker Seating

Holdem is all about people and seating. All experienced Holdem enthusiasts agree that position in no limit Texas Holdem is critically important. Playing your hole cards in last position may be a great deal more beneficial than in starting poker spot. The reason seeing that much more information is gathered right before acting.

As an example, I was playing a $1-$2 no limit cash match at a local spot. I limped in with 2, 9 unsuited on the croupier button, just to partake in a little action. Flop came down A-A-4. A player in starting position laid a $15 bet. Two players fold and it was now my turn to act. I really should have dropped out, but something felt a tiny bit odd. I ID’d this guy as a weak-tight player, and usually if he had the strongest hand he would simply check, so I called.

The turn arrived with a 7, making it A-A-4-7. My competitor made an additional bet of $20. I hesitated a tiny bit, but decided to re-raise an additional $30thirty dollars over and above his twenty dollars. He folds and I take the cash.

Betting at late position allows you an insight into where you are positioned by seeing how other individuals behave and bet. On the flip side, individuals at starting position can use their poker spot to check-raise the last positioned aggressors and trap them afterwords at the end. In Hold’em, both ends, last and starting should be played carefully.
