[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
