NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
