Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
