NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
