NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
