No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
