No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
