Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
