NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
