No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
