NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
