No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
