NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
