NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
