NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
