No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
