No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
