Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
