No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
