NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
