Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
